How was Konkuri born?
Konkuri was conceived by Koinema, a flexible and ambitious web agency based in Bologna, Italy. The idea came from a personal need: we wanted to organize a tournament among friends and share the results online. It should have been easy in the web 2.0 era, right? Unfortunately, the experience turned into a big disappointment: in fact, all the existing solutions did not match our needs of simplicity and elegance. At the time, we were looking for a new project to develop, so... fill in the blanks ;-) Konkuri web site was launched on-line in September 2009.
What does the name Konkuri mean?
The name comes from Esperanto and it means "to compete", which seems to us a perfect synthesis of our project. First of all, because competition in sports and games means... tournaments! And it is competition that transforms game into insane passion ;-) Second, because the Esperanto philosophy is to create a flexible and universal language, like our application. Indeed, Konkuri's final goal is manage any kind of tournament, any kind of sport or game, everywhere.

Tournament systems
Round-robin
With the round-robin system each contestant meets every other contestant in turn. Click on the "configure tournament" button to select the round-robin type you want:
  • Single round-robin
  • Double round-robin
  • Multiple round-robin (repeat multiple rounds).

The number of participants allowed for the round-robin system is up to 20.
Brackets
Konkuri supports single-elimination brackets (double-elimination is on its way). The number of participants allowed for the bracket system is up to 32.
Brackets clip_image019
In a knockout tournament, Konkuri allows you to set multiple matches per round. You can select single-leg tie, two-legged ties, or best-of-N matches, where the team winning more matches wins the series. Besides, you can select these options in every single round. For example, you could create a schedule with two-legged ties up to the semi-final and a single-leg tie in the final (like in the UEFA Champions League).

Groups/playoffs
The classic two-stage tournament, like FIFA World Cup.
  • Group stage: round-robin tournament where the top competitors in each group qualify for the finals;
  • Final stage: single-elimination brackets.
Accordingly to the number of participants, Konkuri will automatically suggest the optimal group splitting and thenumber of qualifiers for the final phase (i.e. the first 2 from each of 6 heats, plus 4 repechages)..

Then you can add or delete groups, customize the participants number for each group, drag and drop participants between groups, and so on.

You can also configure the final stage, designing in advance the brackets seeding. For instance, you can make the winner of group A play against the runner-up of group D, and so on.

Results composed of sets
In some sports, like Tennis, the match result will involve sets. Konkuri can handle that very easily. You can choose the number of sets you're more comfortable with. And you can also make the number vary according to the different round. This way, you could create a schedule with one-set matches at the beginning of the tournament and best of three or five-sets ones as you get closer to the final.

Educational Applications:
Wow! This is a very cool and complete tournament application program. I highly recommend all educators to bookmark and use this program for any of your academic / sport related competitions. I am so impressed with the overall ease of use. For the input fields, you could put your  native language and use the English for template. I did not try to use Google translator on the template fields to see if the fields could be converted into Thai or Chinese. I hope in the future, I will be asked to assist in the next ASEAN University Games so I can recommend this tournament application. This will be a very cool addition to my English camp organization and management! In my opinion, the only way it could be better would be to open it up into Google translator for the description/template fields to make it an international program.
This is truly an outstanding integrated tournament management program that I recommend and consider it being one of the best tournament applications in the world! The link is here.  http://www.konkuri.com/
